The God of the Mountain

So again, why do we climb?

Matthew 10: 38-39

And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me. He that findeth his life shall lose it: And he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.

  • Salvation
  • Anything we have, we must be ready and willing to sacrifice it and give it to God.

Romans 12: 1-2

I beseech you therefore, bretheren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: But be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Living Sacrifice

Genesis 22:2

And he said, take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of.

  • How many of us here have had to let go of something we hold close to our hearts?
  • What is difficult for me to grasp is that God made this difficult request of Abraham and didn’t say anything else. He just watched and observed to see if Abraham would obey. It is the same way with us.
    • And let’s look at Abraham’s response; he obeyed immediately. The Bible says that he rose up early in the morning, got prepared, and made his way to Moriah
  • What is more compelling is that it was a three days journey. Abraham had plenty of time to reconsider and turn around. It is the same with us.
  • When God gives you mountains, it is a personal test, and just like any other test, you must complete it alone; otherwise, you are cheating. (Abraham, Hagar, Ishmael, Sarah)
  • When God gives you mountains, it is an invitation to a higher place.
