The God of the Mountain

We will stumble and fall during our climb.

Psalms 37: 23-24

The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: And he delighteth in his way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: For the LORD upholdeth him with his hand.

  • We think that because we are following God, nothing bad will happen.
  • Following God will take us to mountain tops, and it will take us through valleys, too.
    • Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil. Why? Because thou art with me.
    • See, God waits for us on the mountaintop, but he is with us in the valley.
  • The beautiful part of this verse is its honesty in admitting that even though God orders our steps, we will fall, but when we do, He will lift us up.
  • We will fall on our way to the mountain top.
  • An excellent example to consider is Elijah. God called him to the mountaintop; however, along the way, he hid in a cave. God spoke to him and asked him what he was doing in the cave. Sometimes, along the way to the mountaintop, we get distracted, we get discouraged, and we wander from the path. We lose sight of the objective; we lose sight of the greater picture and focus on ourselves instead. Let’s lift our eyes unto the hills from whence our help cometh.
